Early 20th century hand painted miniature of a baby girl, framed in an attractive stained yew wood frame. Miniature is painted on a thin panel of either ivory or mica - some grain showing when you hold it to the light. The oval panel itself is a little ragged around the edges, I've shown this in one of the photos, but actually this sits below the mount line, so needn't be seen. Written on the rear is: "Beryl Jeanette Harrison. Born 9/10/17, died 2/4/84." (This can be faintly seen from the front, as the panel is quite fine. Writing could be removed, as obviously it dates after 1984.). English item, frame measures 112 mm by 90 mm (4.3/8/inches by 3.1/2 inches).   « Less

Substantial antique eight arm brass chandelier, dating from the early 1900s and found in St. Louis. This chandelier begins in a canopy with beading, leaves, and gadrooned details, working down in chain to a trefoil loop finial. Below, the urn-shaped upper body has gadrooning and graceful curves. The lower body features S-shaped scrolls, and bead-and-reel trim. Eight elaborate scrolling chandelier arms have volute details and support gadrooned disc bobeches. The fixture finishes in a bowl-shaped base with a decorative finial. This chandelier is in very good condition with slight dents to one of the chandelier arms as pictured. The light has been professionally rewired and comes with all necessary attachments for modern installation. The chandelier measures approximately 29-1/2" wide, 23" tall, and 53" long overall.   « Less

Handsome pair of antique newel posts crafted of solid oak and dating from approximately 1880. The square post body is topped with a simple domed newel post cap and features a unique silhouette that tapers in the center. Chamfered edges with reeded and grooved detailing compliment the top and the base. Unlike boxed newel posts that are hollow in the middle, these posts are solid all the way through. The newel has been painted white and is in good antique condition with some chips and wear as shown. The newel posts measure 5-7/8” wide and 61-1/2” tall.   « Less

Asian paan box, made in decorated brass in the shape of a large car. Being on wheels, it would have been rolled around the table for guests to mix their own paan. (Paan is a preparation of betel leaf with areca nut and/or cured tobacco. It is bound in tobacco leaves and chewed - slaked lime is often used to bind these leaves. There are many different ways of making paan, and chewing betel has a very long history in South East Asia. Different additives give different flavours, such as anise seed, cloves and cardamom. It is usually not swallowed, but spat out). Paan boxes have little compartments for the different ingredients. The wealthier the household, the more elaborate the box. On this one, the roof of the car hinges open, and a little brass tray is stored over the spice compartments - this could be used for assembling the ingredients. There are five little pots here. The tray that supports them can be removed and exposes more storage. The bonnet (hood) of the car also hinges open, and would have stored leaves or other ingredients. The boot of the car (trunk) is probably a later addition, being wood painted gold to match the brass. Car measures 33 cm long by 13.5 cm wide. It is 13.5 cm high. (13 inches by 5.3/8 inches by 5.3/8 inches) Very good vintage condition.   « Less

Tiny silver-cased toothpick. The case operates like an antique dance pencil - slide the bar down and the toothpick comes out. No silver marks, so selling as silver plate, but is light enough to be silver. Pretty pattern engraved on the case. Closed, item measures 57 mm long. Open it is 85 mm long (2.1/4 inches and 3.3/8 inches respectively). 6 mm wide and 4 mm thick (1/4 inch by 3/16 inch). One kink in the pick blade, but otherwise excellent condition.   « Less
