A fascinating antique Arts and Crafts one-light chandelier, circa 1910. This pewter pendant begins with a hammered bronze canopy ornamented with faux straps, coming down in a chain to a substantial diamond-shaped loop at the top of the chandelier body. The chandelier body is composed of three bands with blue and red polychrome accents. The bands converge at the bottom of the chandelier, supporting a single light and ending in a finial. This light fixture is in excellent condition; it has been professionally rewired and comes with all the necessary attachments for modern installation. The chandelier body measures 6 ½” wide and 16-3/4” tall to the finial; the fixture is 34-3/4” long overall. NC1076-RW   « Less

The sides of the newel each feature a carved square at the top and bottom with a fourfold foliate design; the middle is ornamented with an elegant carved flower with leaves. F.Demarnes - Studio Biederer " The delicious whims of a lovely Dominatrix " Paris - Publishing Curfew, s.d. Album of 17 pictures (one with folds) size 11.5 x 17cm, navy blue buckram cover. Foxing. One of 300 numbered copies (No. 230). Circa 1930. Dimensions: 20 x 28 cm. the brothers Jacques and Charles Biederer, Czech origin, settled in Paris shortly before World War I, by registering officially as portrait photographers. it is from the 20s that their logo disappears to take pseudonyms. they start producing a " mass " by working for publishers of postcards. All buyers are developed fantasies, but the brothers were able to stay away from dark side or demeaning environment, choosing models of an environment that exudes relaxation and good mood. they provide the early 1930's photos for album - books as " the ArdenteTutelle " Jim Galding, the first in a series of which this lot is part.   « Less

A wonderful antique wrought iron five-light chandelier in its original finish, dating from the 1920’s. The chandelier begins with a polychrome canopy ornamented with red shields and blue ribbon detail; it comes down in a chain to a finial with a looped border. Below, five wrought iron bands form the chandelier body, connected in the middle with a polychrome foliate bowl finished in a finial. This light fixture is in excellent condition with a beautifully aged finish; it has been professionally rewired and comes with all the necessary attachments for modern installation. A classical Greek style bronze sculpture of a javelin thrower, 19th century, unsigned. He has a gracefully proportioned, muscular body, a finely featured face, and close cropped curly hair. The figure stands 19.5" H at the head and 20.25" H at the fist. Measured from a wall, it extends 16.75" L front to back, and 17.75" W side to side. The quarter inch base is 15" x 6.75".   « Less

Impressionist landscape by British artist Edward Brian Seago. Oil on artist board, with thick impasto typical of Seago's work from his early period. The painting's focal point is the extraordinary windy sky with its mauve and gray rain clouds obscuring the blue sky beyond. The scene is grounded low with a pea green field and a dark wind tossed tree line. Probably painted in Norfolk because it is so similar to his other works from this area. Seago was born in Norwich in 1910, and died in London in 1974. He was largely self taught but received guidance under Bertam Priestman, R.A. He traveled and worked in Italy, France, Sardinia, Portugal, Morocco, and Hong Kong. His work has been shown in London, Glasgow, New York, Montreal, Los Angeles, Oslo, and Brussels; his work hangs in the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco. The image measures 8" x 10". It is signed at lower left, and pencil dated verso Sept. 11, 1932. It is in excellent original condition.
