DESCRIPTION: This is a Native American Woodlands Indian effigy ceremonial ladle from New England, circa 1800s. The wooden effigy ladle was hand hewn using stones, knives and perhaps a beaver tooth for smoothing. The smaller Native American Woodland Indian ladles were used everyday as an eating implement or spoon. The longer ones were used as a ceremonial ladles, as the decorative handle shows. These ladles were used primarily to share from a communal bowl. The wooden effigy ladle has a spout of sorts, which would have been used for sipping and eating. The back and inside of the antique effigy bowl has a hand hewn shape which is more primitive than if it had been made by a lathe. On the end of the long handle is a carved effigy, which appears to be a feather shape. The ladle is made of a lightweight soft wood such as poplar, which would have been native to the area and was commonly used. The wooden effigy ladle has age appropriate patina and wear especially on the bowl.
MEASUREMENTS: 20 inches in long and 4 1/2 inches wide at the bowl. « Less

The Bataks are from the Philippines and also Malaysia and Indonesia. This little intricately woven box comes from Indonesia. The fine weaving of the lid and outer uses split cane or grass 3mm and less wide. It has a neat edge, and a woven cord so the lid can be lifted off without it comng away from the box. Inside the top is a thicker cane tray - this lifts out to reveal another tray. When this is pulled up, it reveals a whole inner box, with two little drawers front and back, and a pull out tray at the sides containing two further very small trays. For hiding secrets. Whole box measures about10 cm high, 21 cm long and 10 cm wide. Condition: the outer box in fine weave has some age damage. Inside, one of the cane trays has a little stretch in one corner, otherwise it is in remarkably good condition. Early to mid 20th century - certainly at least 50 years old. « Less

We are selling out all our tribal art. Now is the chance to obtain some very rare pieces for a fraction of their value!
Here is one of the finest and most important African masks we have ever offered. It is a large Bassa Tribe helmet mask. It is ornately carved and intricately detailed! A very rare and impressive mask that you will not come across again. It features a lovely carved female face, with snakes swirling around her head and 6 nude females supporting a divination ring that probably once held a bowl. Outstanding circa 1950's mask! There is some ancient insect damage inside the crown, see photo. Beautiful aged wood patina. About 20" tall.
Price is firm.

A beautiful, large harvest mask. Used by the Baule tribe in dance to insure a good harvest and protect the tribe against famine.
The large detailed monkey carving is made from a single log, holding a polychrome ear of corn with beautiful large eyes! Its grass skirt is completely intact as is the inside padding hand stitched from colorful textiles!
The monkey measures about 2 ½ feet tall and about 4 feet overall with its grass skirt!
This mask comes from a private collection. It was a tribal gift to missionaries and brought to the US by boat in the 1950’s. So mask would probably date circa 1940’s – 50’s.
Extremely rare museum worthy offering!

Here is a spectacular older African, Ivory Coast mask from an old New York collection.
Large impressive size, about 16” tall x 11” wide. Wonderful carving with impressive openwork, bulging eyes and brass bells all around separated by carved ebony wood beads!
This is an authentic vintage African mask, something you would have to pay 10 times as much for if purchased through a New York tribal art gallery, not the hokey masks you will find online with dirty rags, glued on grass or glued on hair.
Rare chance to buy a quality vintage piece of African tribal art!
