For sale I have a beautiful piece of glass made by the Moser Glassworks Company of Karlsbad, Austria. The form is an enameled and reeded tumbler done in a floral motif. The tumbler measures 3 7/8" tall and is 2 5/8 " in diameter.
The tumbler is a Jacobean style floral decoration that has hand painted gold leaves and flowers accented with pink, blue, green, yellow and purple enameling. This is all set on a clear reeded swirl background and gold accented rim. The rim of this tumbler is cut and polished therefore determining that it was blown from the top.
The tumbler is considered to be in Excellent Condition as there are no chips, cracks, nicks or dings. There is minor gold accent loss along the rim but no bare areas and you really have to look hard to notice it. This is a lovely piece to add to any art glass or tumbler collection and I'm sure the lucky buyer will not be disappointed.
This tumbler was made Circa 1900-1910. « Less

For sale is a very nice vase made by The Weller Pottery Company of Zanesvillle, Ohio. The Pattern is called "Oak Leaf" and it is done in their Brown Glaze. The shape is known as a "Console Bowl". The Bowl is a good size as it stands 3 7/8" tall and is 10 5/16" wide and 5 3/4" deep.
The Bowl has a kind of Banana Boat shape and it rest on 3 small feet. The Bowl displays a Wonderful Mocha Brown Background with a Mottled Deep Chocolate Glaze along the bottom. The front side depicts a few Oak Leaves with added Sage Green and Deeper Brown Glaze Accents on the leaves and tips. The backside of the vase has 2 embossed or raised Acorns that seems to be hanging from the Branch formed top lip.
The Bowl is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The Piece is signed on the bottom with the "Weller" Incised Mold Script Signature mark along with a letter "R". This was more than likely the finishers initial. For Auction I have a very nice Art Glass Plate made by Tiffany Studios, New York. This is one of the Rarest Tiffany Plates I have ever purchased. The Plate measures 1/2" Tall and is 7" in diameter. This would be considered a Luncheon Plate.
This Plate displays a beautiful Gold Favrile Border with Green Favrile Band that is about 5/16" thick. This band is further accented with Gold Favrile inner Border. This decoration is on a base glass that is a white or calcite in color. On the interior of the plate it looks more Yellow because of the Gold Favrile fuming. The white picked it up and gives this more of a Custard Color. The underside shows the calcite white.
The Plate is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. It has a very large counter sunk polished Pontil. The sign of a quality piece of Art Glass. The Plate is properly signed with Tiffany's Etched counter clockwise signature mark. Its is written in script "X299 L.C. Tiffany-Favrile". Tiffany marked most of his Favrile pieces with either a Prefix or Suffix Letter and a number. This helped in determining the year of manufacture. The only time Tiffany used the letter "X" was for "Experimental" pieces such as this one. I can only guess by the low number following the "X" that this is a very early piece.
This Plate was made circa 1895-1900. « Less

For sale is a Desk Set Item made by Tiffany Studios, New York. This is only 1 item from a 7 Piece Desk Set that I recently purchased from a Maine Estate. I sold the Notepad, Stamp Box and Rocker Blotter so there are only 4 pieces left. The Item for Auction is a "Calendar/Picture Frame" and it is done in Tiffany's "American Indian" Desk Set Pattern. The Calendar/Picture Frame measures 7 3/8" wide at its widest point and is 6" in Height. The Picture or Calendar Opening is 5 3/8" Wide by 3 3/4" Tall.
The Calendar/Picture Frame has the very desirable "Craftsman Brown" Patina and is a real Collectors Choice in The Arts and Crafts Style Decor. This is the most sought after and most Popular Patina in this Desk Set Pattern. This Desk set Item displays wonderful Geometric Patterns and Symbols to Honor "The American Indian". The lower exterior has a Hammered Arts and Crafts appearance.
The Calendar/Picture Frame is considered to be in excellent-mint condition as there are no dents, or dings on the front side. This piece shows very minimal wear. The only issue is a groove in the metal back plate on the back of the Frame. This is Factory as it was made this way and not damage. It has an easel style Hinge to sit on your desk comfortable. The Frame has all of its original Screws as well. The piece is signed on the backside Frame plate with "Tiffany Stvdios New York" Impressed Mark along with the Pattern Number 1187 for the Calendar/Picture Frame Number. The spelling of Studio with the letter "V" denotes this as an earlier piece.
I will also be listing the "Blotter Ends (2), and Inkwell". These are in the same condition and Patina as the Calendar/Picture Frame. Please email me directly if you are interested in purchasing the remaining Set. My email address is below.
Tiffany started using a 3 digit number for his Fancy Desk Set goods after 1902 subsequently this piece was made early circa 1902-1905. This is a quality item in the Tiffany Desk Set Items. The Quality and Patina doesn't get much better than this. I'm Sure the Lucky Buyer will be delighted with their purchase. « Less

Circa 1940's
A large scale work, oil on canvas. Jewel tones and wonderful details. Eugene Andrew Agafonoff (Evgeny Andreevich Agafonov) was a Ukrainian painter, graphic artist and scene-designer who was born in 1879. Evgeny Agafonov was born to family of a merchant. He got his first art education in St. Petersburg Academy of Arts in 1899–1907. He studied under the guidance of P. Kovalevsky and F. A. Roubaud. In 1910 Agafonov was awarded gold medal for the painting Draymen at the regional South Russia exhibition in Ekaterinoslav. In 1905–1907 during Revolution, Agafonov illustrated Kharkov satirical magazines Shtyk (“Bayonetâ€), Mech (“Swordâ€), Zloy Dukh (“Malignant Demonâ€) and others. In March 1906 Agafonov together with A. N. Grot, V. D. and D. D. Burlyuk participated in the 7th exhibition of the Cirlce of Kharkov artists (1900–1908). Since 1908 he exposed his works at the exhibitions of the Association of Kharkov artists, at the exhibition of the group Zveno (“Linkâ€) in Kiev (1908), in Rostov-on-Don and Kursk. In 1909 Agafonov founded the experimental theatre Blue Eye in Kharkov on the basis of the avant-garde studio Blue Lily. He designed a lot of performances for this theatre, including The Stranger by A. Blok. The theatre worked only two seasons and was closed in February 1911. Later Agafonov left the Association of Kharkov artists and organized avant-garde group Koltso (“The Ringâ€, 1911–1914). Members of the group were A. N. Grot, A. M. Zagonov, N. R. Savvin, M. S. Fedorov, E. A. Shteinberg and others. In 1913 Agafonov joined the group Bubnovy Valet (“Jack of Diamondsâ€), took part in the exhibitions of the group in St. Petersburg. Agafonov participated in the First World War; in 1918 he returned to Kharkov. In the same year he designed covers of the Theatre Magazine. Agafonov joined the group Khudozhestvenny Tsekh (“The Art Guildâ€); in 1918–1919 he together with M. A. Voloshin, Mane-Katz, and E. A. Shteinberg took part in the exhibitions of the group. In 1919 Agafonov lectured as an art critic in the studio of painting and drawing under the ProletCult (Proletarian Culture). He also exposed his works at the First exhibition of the Art department of Kharkov Soviet of worker’s deputies. Evgeny Agafonov painted a lot of portraits: portrait of the Lieutenant P. P. Schmidt’s lawyer A. Alekseev (1906), portrait of the actress V. F. Komissarzhevskaya (1908). In his paintings Agafonov often used Ukraine national motifs: The portrait of Mr. B., Girls (1908), Many-colored on greenery and others. He also painted landscapes, drew sketches and drawings. In early 1920s Agafonov immigrated to the USA. He was engaged in easel painting, graphic art and advertising. He exposed his works at the exhibitions of the Society of independent artists (1929) and in the French gallery in New York (1931), in the Greenwich public library (1939), and in Derby, Connecticut (1943). Personal exhibitions of the artist were held in the Cas-Delbaut gallery in New York (1931). Works by Evgeny Agafonov, which the artist left in Kharkov, were kept in Kharkov Art Museum. During the Great Patriotic War, the greater part of his works was lost. Only several drawings and theatre designs remained in Kharkov Art Museum. Mr. Agafonov died in 1955. *Biography info from Art Investment Russia. « Less

Circa 1991
A rare and important painting by Anatoly Belkin. This work is signed with his monogram and dated 91. Translating the painting, yielded an interesting work. Tea is Good. Vladimir Mayakovsky. Unjust. Here is how I see it. The painting is filled with Russian words. After a bit of research we've uncovered a lot about the artist and the painting. The painting does depict a samovar and tea is a very popular drink in Russia. There is also a lot more going on in the painting. The top word does read Tea and then is Very Good. The rest of the words have a real political meaning. The name at the top is Vladimir Mayakovsky. He lived from 1883 to 1930 and was an important figure in Russian poetry. His life and works are filled with controversy, triumph and tragedy. And, about that newspaper. PRAVDA is quite recognizable. What is less recognizable is the play on words. By adding a couple letters before and after the word for Pravda, Mr. Belkin has transformed the word for truth to the word for Injustice. Just next to the word Pravda, are the words Workers of the World Unite. Mr. Belkin was born in 1953 in Moscow, Russia. He studied, lives and works in Leningrad, St. Petersburg. His artistic education included studies at I. E. Repin Institute of Painting (1963-1970) and at I. E. Repin Institute (1970-1972). Being one of the youngest representatives of nonconformist movement, he participated in the majority of exhibitions of "informal" artists. His first personal exhibition took place at Dzerzhinsky Culture Club (1977). Since 1976 his works have been included in foreign expositions of "resistant" art in New York, Sent-Luis, Washington, San Francisco, Bochum, Paris, Mongeron and other cities. Mr. Belkin is a member of the St. Petersburg Organization of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia. He is also the founder and the editor of the magazines "Sobaka.ru " (2000), and "Veshch.doc" (2005). Mr. Belkin continues to paint. « Less
