George III, dated February 7th 1816 1816 Silkwork Sampler by Elizabeth White. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours dark brown, greens, copper, pink, black and gold. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-20. Verse reads ''The Loss of Time is Much The Loss of Truth is More The> Loss of Jesus Christ is Such as no Man Can Restore> Remember thy Creator in the Days of thy youth, while the evil> Days come not, nor the years draw Nigh, when thou shalt say, I> have no Pleasure in them, for GOD shall Bring every work into> Judgment With every secret thing, fear the Lord thy GOD''. Signed and dated ''Elizabeth White Finished February 7th Aged 13 Years 1816. Two crowns and a scene depicting two male figures holding the hands of two children, all standing amongst trees with birds flying overhead. Generally Good. Two holes. Ground is thin in places, making the white backing visible. Dark stain above the trees, and uniform age darkening of the ground. Some stitch losses to the alphabet, numbers and birds. Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. The sampler is finely worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering strawberry border. Colours red, cream, blue, yellow, light brown, white, pink, black and greens. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-9. Verse entitled ''ON A WATCH'' reads ''While this gay toy attracts thy sight,> Thy reason let it warn,> And seize, my dear that rapid time> That never must return.> If idly lost, no art or care> The blessing can restor> And heav''n exacts a strict> For ev''ry misspent hour> Short is the longest day of life,> And soon its prospects end:> Yet on that day''s uncertain date,> Eternal years depend.> Yet equal to our being''s aim,> The space to virtue given> And ev''ry minute well improv''d> Secures an age in heaven''. Victorian, dated 1841 Large 1841 Woolwork Sampler by Martha Johnson. Framed in a mahogany veneer frame with glass. Edges-only glued to the reverse of a wooden backing board. The sampler is worked in wool and cotton on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering strawberry border. Colours red, green, pale blue, light brown, gold, white, black, pink, orange, magenta, dark brown and light green. Verse reads ''The time will come my dearist friend> When all our works will have an end> And if we be for heaven prepared> We shall possess a great reward''. Signed and dated ''Martha Johnson work done in 1841''. A good set of motifs, including a man about to throw a stick for his dog, birds perched in trees, a potted flowering plant, a lady with her dog and flowers. Generally Good. A few small pulls in the canvas. A number of small stains. No stitch losses. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Stretching is very slightly uneven. Victorian, dated 1846 1846 Silkwork Sampler by Ann Slough. Framed in an old, possibly original wood frame with gilt slip and rippled glass. Tacked to a wood stretcher frame with card backing and brown paper dust cover. The sampler is worked in fine silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering floral border. Colours green, blue, pale blue, light brown, light green, gold and brown. Signed and dated ''Ann Slough 1846''. Unusual set of finely embroidered motifs, including churches, a house with a garden, a lady in the garden, potted flowering plants, a rabbit, a stork, two figures with sticks, stag, butterflies, a horse and rider, a swan, birds, duck, sheep, a dove with a floral wreath and a sailing ship. Good. A few small holes. A few patchy stains. Very minor stitch loss to the border. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Unevenly stretched and overframed. Frame showing some wear and is weak in one or more of the corners, but in our opinion still sturdy enough to hang. 16ins wide by 12.5ins wide « Less
