This miniature violin in wood case is vintage folk art. The case is 7-1/2" long, 1-9/16" high. The case is oak, and the violin is maple, with burl wood on top and tiger maple on the bottom. The grains of the woods are carefully matched on both the violin and the case. The types of wood used indicate an American origin. The close up of the violin scroll clearly reveals hand work. It is difficult to determine the exact age, but it is probably mid 20th century or a little earlier. The condition is excellent for a vintage item. The violin strings appear to be cotton, and one of the strings has popped.
