Circa 1890 Majolica Palissy pot and cover in the form of a tree stump. Exterior of the jar is decorated with a flower, a butterfly and a bird peeping out from inside its nest. A snake is coiled around a hollow in the tree, which forms the pipe rest. Cover is decorated with shells and a frog, with the finial molded as a toadstool beside a branch. Mottled ground with shredded clay decoration. Brown interior. Brown underside with three stilt marks. Generally good. Jar: A few flakes to stump on one side. Restored rim chips. Restored chip to rim of hollow. Cover: Shallow flake and a bruise to flange. Restored chip to shell. Repair to finial. 6.75ins high
