Rare to find a piece of Soviet era trench art but to find a cigarette case with it's original lighter is extremely rare. The designs on the aluminum cigarette case are both patriotic as well as romantic. The upper left corner bears a likeness of the Order of the Patriotic War and bears the dates 1941-1944. The lower left is a heart with crossed swords motif and is dated 1921. The dates suggests that the soldier who crafted the piece not only served in WWII until 1944, suggesting perhaps he was wounded at that time and thus had time to produce this interesting set, but the earlier date suggets that he may have been a part of the Revolution as well. The aluminum body cigarette lighter is lacking any adornment other than the date 1944, the Red Star and perhaps a unit marking. Case size, 3"x4.5", lighter 2.25" in height.
