This item has been SOLD. A beautiful Imperial Russian Cigarette Case with a later Soviet inscription engraved on the back, dated 1928. Research suggests that these fine silver items were confiscated by the revolutionary government and used as awards for various "Soviet" achievements. That seems to be what occurred with this case, The face of the case is decorated with a classic bas relief lion under an arch of leaves and flanked by palms. The case corners are rounded and there is a ruby/garnet cabochon thumb. The interior is gilt with some wear and retains the fabric cigarette retainers. Both sides of the case bear touch marks as shown in the photos. The back has an engraved presentation and has some surface abrasion and a very small dent at the top. A beautiful piece of history waiting to be revealed. Size is three by four and three eights inches.
