Victorian, circa 1860 Staffordshire inkwell modeled as a spaniel with two pups. The adult dog carries a basket of flowers in it''s mouth. Cobalt base with two quill holes. Dull gilt decoration and base line. Similar piece illustrated figure 15, page 83, ''A-Z of Staffordshire Dogs, A Potted History'', by Clive Mason Pope. Good. No cracks. No hairlines. Slight wear to the cobalt base. Some rubbing to gilt. Kiln effects: piece of kiln detritus to the base front; stray russet enamel to the reverse. Restoration to end of base on the underside. Retouching to the russet enamel and adult dog''s nose. 5.25ins high
