Victorian, circa 1860 Staffordshire pen holder/inkwell modeled as an eagle perched over it''s three young chicks, holding a snake in it''s claws. Shredded clay decoration to ground and above the chicks. Dull gilt decoration and base line. Two pen holders to front. Good. No cracks. Small chip to shredded clay on ground. Rubbing to gilt. Kiln effects: shrinkage line to one side of base and a faint shrinkage line to large bird''s neck; slight kiln soot caught in the glaze; some staining (mainly to underside and reverse). Stray cobalt glaze to the front. Restoration to one chick and the shredded clay above, and another''s head. 5.5ins high
