Art Nouveau gilt and cut crystal double inkwell & pen holder with relief sculpted & gilded elegant woman dancing. French, 19th century.Measures 5 3/4inches accross. 3 1/2inches front to back.Finest French cut crystal with gilt metal mounts. This piece has to be examined from every angle and side to appreciate the tremendous workmanship. the shape is oval with a round front. Underneath is beautifully, beautifully cut crystal. Top corner of glass is canted. Around the front is a border of gold acorns and oak leaves. At the back this extends all the way up the side and turns over to the top of the crystal in the form of swags, flowers and foliage in exquisite detail. The inkwells are similarly decorated with acorn and oak openwork on the bottom. The metal caps have applied gold Art Nouveau figures of maidens in diaphenous robes, dancing. Superb.Condition is great. One metal cap has the most negligible of dings, scarcely a shadow and mentioned only for the sake of accuracy. Hinges are firm, glass is utterly MINT.
