Unusual inkwell, made from a horse's hoof with silver plate on brass mount and fitted horse shoe. The lid is engraved "St. Lawrence. 1896-1913". I'm assuming St. Lawrence was the name of the horse - he may have been a racehorse.
Item measures 9.6 cm high, 12.4 cm front to back and 10 cm wide. Hinged lid opens to reveal the inkwell, which has a lift-out well. There is wear to the silver plate on the lid, both inside and out, and to one side top mount (see photos), otherwise very good condition. Hoof is in perfect condition. Very unusual item.
