Antique bronze inkwell blackamoor bust of a Moorish woman. 19th century, possibly Vienna or French.5 3/8inches high. Base is 4 3/4inches in diameter. Weighs over 3 1/2 lbs.Round base. Woman''w head, luscious curls pulled back and tied with a gilded band. An actual net was placed in the carved furrows of her hair, part of it in metal and part of it in red string. Tiny turquoise beads and pearls hang from her ears. The inserted eyes are glass, one of which needs a bit of straightening. Soft gilt highlights and scarf. The headband is the rim of the inkwell''s hinged lid.Outstanding modelling on this figure - From the high cheekbones to open, sensuous lips, pattern and fold of scarf and strong chin.
