Marquetry Parquetry. A fruitwood jardiniere with original brass liner. Scottish, made 19th century.Measures 10inches high, excluding the handle,which adds approx 4 1/2inches to the height.Moulded bucket-shaped body, carved with horizontal folds and with alternating bands of light and dark fruitwood, interspersed by 3 ebonised ringbands. Stands on a conforming domed, round pedestal base raised on 3 ball feet. Brass swing handle on the sides have leaf-shaped attachments with copper studs. Original, matching brass liner.Narrow grained woods masterfully carved and fitted. Great patina.Excellent condition for it''s age. Ebony has negligible wear. Millers 2001 has an identical example, page 624 ''A Scottish bucket with alternate staves of alder and sycamore, 1860''.
