Ancient Aztec art on its own is quite rare... Aztec stone is even more rare (the Spanish conquistadors did a marvelous job of wiping out almost all traces of this massive and wide-ranging culture)! Finely executed stone bowl with petaled rim and four short legs, from central Mexico, ca. 1400 to 1500 AD. Gray basalt carved into a substantial, yet delicate looking vessel, certainly used for ceremonial purposes. 7"H x 6-1/2"D, intact and choice with lovely smooth surface from its 600 years of burial.
