Antique Tinsel Print : Museum quality Commemorative Mary Queen Scots interest - C.19thC
A particularly fine and extremely rare Museum quality Commemorative Tinsel Print of
Margaret Tudor who was the grandmother of Mary Queen of Scots after Holbien
Tinsel prints are usually of Actors of the day and extremely rare to find a Commemorative example,
this one has been very finely worked with the usual tinsel materials but also with tiny
pearls and coloured stones, a very fine 3D College which we are dating C1841 which
was the 300 year anniversary of Margaret Tudor's death.
Has the framer Johanna Birkenruth label on the back so perhaps was reframed late 19th/early 20th century
Our research is showing that Johanna Birkenruth was an important member of the
Guild of Women Binders but please decide for yourself if you think it is the same person?
and may be a good extra

Good Untouched Antique Condition - gesso frame has a few flakes and we would
recommend re-sealing the back - and there is a dead spider and web inside which should be removed
Photographed behind glass so light reflections also the colours are more intense - this is a wonderful extremely rare item

Margaret Tudor (28 November 1489 – 18 October 1541) was Queen of Scots from 1503 until 1513 as the wife of James IV and then regent for their son James V. She was born at Westminster Palace as the elder surviving daughter of Henry VII of England and Elizabeth of York. As queen dowager, she married Archibald Douglas, 6th Earl of Angus. Through her first and second marriages, respectively, Margaret was the grandmother of both Mary, Queen of Scots, and Mary's second husband, Lord Darnley. Margaret's marriage to James IV foreshadowed the Union of the Crowns – their great-grandson, King James VI of Scotland, the child of Mary and Darnley, also became the king of England and Ireland on the death of Margaret's fraternal niece, Elizabeth I of England in 1603.
