Japanese carved boxwood brush washer bowl. Probably early 1900''s. Measures approx 4 inches accross. General shape is oval, but has a myriad of finely carved organic forms, some like tentacles of sea anenomes, some floral and foliate, swirling around and about each other, forming bridges and arches. The carving underneath the bowl is even more stupendous than the top and sides. Great detail. Wonderful artistic assymetry and aesthetic style. Very good condition.
