Charles Joseph Chaplin: Antique porcelain plaque, artist signed and dated. Depicting young woman, partially nude, with crying cupid at her side. In original antique gilt wood (gesso) frame, sealed at the back. The quality is the best of the best. It is after the work by Charles Joshua Chaplain (1825 - 1891) - see signature. Measurements:frame is approx 16 1/4 X 22 1/4; Plaque 8 X 13 3/4 (sight). The plaque depicts a young girl with ribbons in her blond hair and a blue satin sash around her waist. Bare breasted with a diaphenous white wrap around her arms and a long pink wrap around her legs, a gold bracelet on one arm. She looks down, whether shyly or from moodiness. Hands are clasped together. A lyre on one side, a crying Cupid / winged cherub on the other. The background is a mottled green with grey, blue and brown tones. The painting is superb - see wonderful details of face, hair, fingers, jewellery and body. The painting is signed on top and may refer to the identity of the sitter. Marie d''Aumont; next line reads d''ap chaplin and then the date 1879. Similar works by Charles Joshua Chaplin eg Roses de Mai, 1877 shows a girl in a very similar pose, almost identically dressed (undressed?) from the opposite direction. The plaque comes in what appears to be it''s original gilt wood frame, which is quite beautiful in it''s own right. The outer part of the frame (not seen in pictures), has a few negligible losses and there are some very minor age cracks in the gilding (see pictures). Plaque is in very good condition with no damage/losses of any sort. Status: For Sale Reference#: 3140 Condition: good Year: 1860 Title: SIGNED DD PORCELAIN PLAQUE GIRL CUPID KPM MEISSEN
