Circa 1890 Majolica Palissy wall plate with a lizard attacking a snake from within its burrow, surrounded by a worm, a grub, a smaller lizard, a frog, and two moths, all on green shredded clay ground. Brown reverse with two hanging holes on the foot rim. Cream glaze inside the foot rim along with three stilt marks and impressed maker''s mark ''JOSE A. CUNHA PORTUGAL CALDAS RAINHA''. Good. No cracks. No hairlines. Minor flaking to shredded clay. Restored chip to shredded clay. Both antennae of one moth restored. 11ins diameter
