Circa 1890 Majolica Palissy plate with three dueling lizards and a beetle on mossy ground. Brown reverse with two hanging holes on the foot. Three stilt marks inside the foot along with maker''s marks impressed ''M.MAFRA CALDAS PORTUGAL'' and ''6''. Good. No cracks. No hairlines. Three chips to the foot (probably during firing) and a further three shallow chips associated with stilt marks. Some flaking to the moss. Kiln effect: shrinkage crack to tail of one lizard. Repair to neck of the smaller lizard. Restoration to one beetle leg, and one other leg rebuilt. Small restored chip to tail tip of the largest lizard. 9.25ins diameter
