Circa 1890 Majolica Palissy wall plate with a hedgehog, snake, two beetles and an apple branch, all molded on green mossy ground. Brown and cream mottled reverse. Two hanging holes on the foot. Three stilt marks inside the foot, along with impressed maker''s mark ''M. MAFRA CALDAS PORTUGAL'' and inscribed ''3''. Generally good. No cracks. No hairlines. Chips to hedgehog spikes. Small flake to end of branch. Kiln effects: some stray brown glaze to the hedgehog''s back; glaze accumulation to the foot. Repair to snake neck. Restored chips to leaf. Restoration of beetle antennae and wing tips. Restored flakes to the foot. Retouching to the moss. 12.25ins diameter
