Circa 1890 Mafra Majolica Palissy plate with a snake biting a toad on the nose. The toad is emerging from a burrow. Mossy ground. Brown reverse with two hanging holes on the foot rim. Three stilt marks and maker''s marks impressed ''M.MAFRA CALDAS PORTUGAL'' and ''8'' all inside the foot rim. Generally good. No cracks. No hairlines. No chips. Some small flakes to the moss. Old restoration to the snake''s neck and lower jaw. 8ins diameter
