Circa 1890 Large Cunha Majolica Palissy wall plate with a lizard attacking a snake from within its burrow. Giant snail, beetle, moth and worm molded around the edge. Green mossy ground. Brown and cream glazes to reverse. Two hanging holes on the foot. Three stilt marks and impressed maker''s mark ''JOSE A. CUNHA CALDAS RAINHA PORTUGAL'' inside the foot. Good. No cracks. No hairlines. Minor flaking to moss. Kiln effects: glaze accumulation to the foot, three chips associated with stilt marks. Restored chip to the moss. Restoration of one moth antennae and tips of three outer beetle legs. 11ins diameter
