Circa 1890 Large Majolica Palissy wall plate with a snake attacking a lizard, which is retreating into its burrow. Surrounded by creatures: a snail, moth, worm and two beetles on green, mossy ground. Brown reverse with two hanging holes on the foot. Three stilt marks and impressed maker''s mark ''JOSE A. CUNHA PORTUGAL CALDAS RAINHA'' inside the foot. Generally good. No cracks. No hairlines. Chips to the foot. Small flake to moth wing and some flaking to the moss and foot. Restoration of three outer legs of each beetle, snail antennae and antennae of one beetle.
