Circa 1890 Jose Francisco de Sousa Majolica Palissy wall plate with a snake and a lizard in confrontation on mossy ground. Stag beetle and moth on either side. Scalloped rim. Brown reverse with two hanging holes on the foot rim. Impressed maker''s mark stylized ''JFS'' monogram and three stilt marks inside the foot rim. Good. No hairlines. Flake to rim. Minor flaking to moss tips. Kiln effect: three over glazed shrinkage cracks to under rim. Restored chip to moth''s left wing. Retouched flake to lizard''s nose and hind right leg. 8ins diameter
