Antique silk fan with handpainted flowers and openwork sticks with mother of pearl buttons. Believed to be French, dating to the 19th century. Measures approx 20 inches from top corner to corner when open. Beautiful, heavy old silk in a pearly colour with apricot overtones. The main body of the fan has been handpainted with flowers: roses, jasmin, and foliage very beautifully depicted in fine detail. The painting was clearly done by an accomplished artist. The sticks of made of an ivory-color material with very fine openwork patterns. They are held together by a gilt metal shaped finger ring, clasped by a pair of mother of pearl buttons. Condition: There are two discoloured rectangles that should be gently cleaned. The fabric is in remarkably good condition with almost no splitting. A few pin holes on the ends are inexplicable and neglible. The sticks and guards appear to be in excellent shape, but one guard is cracked at the back. The paint, which is very beautiful, shows slight signs of age - see magnification in the ''photos. Status: For Sale Reference#: 3209 Condition: good Year: 1870 Title: ANTIQUE SILK FAN HANDPAINTED ROSES OPENWORK STICKS
