Khurasan Bronze Tray Inlaid with Silver - AMD.278, Origin: Central Asia, Circa: 1200 AD to 1300 AD, Dimensions: 12" (30.5cm) high x 7.5" (19.1cm) wide, Collection: Islamic Art, Style: Khurasan, Medium:Bronze - Silver, The inlay technique developed rapidly from the twelfth century under the Seldjuks in Khurasan and the Ghaznavids and Ghurids in Afghanistan. This elaborate rectangular bronze tray has a wide lip and a shallow octagonal central recess. The centre displays a silver inlaid medallion of interlaced strapwork flanked by a pair of bands of kufic on a scrolling ground. The rim has bands of cursive calligraphy interspersed with roundels composed of rosettes and scrolling split- palmette spandrels. This wonderfully crafted object would make an excellent addition to any collection
