This item has been SOLD. This remarkably detailed bronze of Lt.Col. John C. Fremont depictied as "The Pathfinder" is number 1 of an edition of 20, signed G. Wentworth and dated 1977. Wentworth's work is known for its historic accuracy and attention to the smallest detail. He was a passionate student of the westward expansion and the American frontier and that study is seen in his work. The viewer is immediately aware of not only this detail and historic accuracy but Wentworths ability to create an almost living tension in his work. Note the fixed attention of the subject as well as his horse. They both appear to have seen something which not only has their complete focus but they also appear about to move in that direction. Fremont leans slightly forward in his saddle and the horse has just started to raise a front and hind hoof, almost motion. A remarkable work that represents an excellent addition to any art collection. In excellent condition, slight scratches to the title plate. Size, H: 17.5", length 13". Size of base is 12" by 6.75".
