For sale is a wonderfully executed watercolor painting by Henry Sylvester Stannard, British 1870-1951. Approximately 21 3/4" x 28 1/4" WITH the frame. WITHOUT the frame it measures 13 3/4" x 20 1/4". Signed lower left H. Sylvester Stannard RBA (Royal British Academy). It is mounted in a Newcomb Macklin frame that is in excellent condition. Henry John Sylvester Stannard of Bedford was a painter known for his genre, landscapes, villages, farms, gardens, horsemen, boats, sheep and ducks. He was especially known for his watercolours of picturesque rustic cottage scenes. He studied at the Bedford Modern School and the National Art Training School. He won his diploma at 16 years old. He was a member of many art societies and was elected to the Royal Society of British Artists in 1896. He came from a family of artists but his is the most notable. Very good condition.
