This is a wonderful antique transitional Victorian oak mantel with a beveled mirror, circa 1910. The mantel begins at its base with a pair of smooth round columns on rectangular bases, coming up to a beveled shelf. Beneath the shelf, just above the firebox opening, is a carved appliqué with foliate and volute detail. Two smaller columns rest atop the shelf, flanking the mirror, and support a second beveled shelf. On either side of the mirror is a vertical carved appliqué featuring a torch with volute detail and a small strand of bellflowers. The top of the mantel, above the top shelf, is adorned with a pair of carved foliate and volute motifs, one on each end of the mantel. This mantel is in excellent condition, with a slightly crackled finish. The mantel measures 78†tall, 60†wide, and 11 ¼†deep overall; the firebox opening is 35 ½†wide and 35 ¾†tall.
