Rare South Staffordshire enamel counter basket, the oval form with pierced sides, painted to the base with a scattering of playing cards, including one monogrammed CR, with flower sprays around the well.
Circa 1785
References: ref. English Enamel Boxes p119 for an example, called a quadrille poole or counter tray, after the popular 18th century card game. These trays were sold in sets of five, one for each player and one for the kitty.
