This is a wonderful antique Neoclassical figural cast iron fireplace cover, circa 1890. This beautifully cast summer cover displays a man with rays of light emanating from around his head possibly Prometheus, who in Greek mythology stole fire from the gods and brought it to mankind holding aloft a flaming torch. He is standing atop an intricately cast urn filled with roses, and a small cherub looks down at him from above, while a second cherubic figure stands next to the urn. The entire scene is bordered by an elegant design of foliate volutes, followed by a rectangular bead-and-reel border. This summer cover is in excellent condition, and it measures 25 tall and 19 7/8 wide.
