This is a beautiful antique Neoclassical solid walnut mantel, dating from the 1880 s. It begins at the top with a beautifully beveled shelf, supported on each side by an intricately carved bracket featuring a detailed foliate design on both the front and the outer side. Each bracket rests on a balustrade-style column. Between the two brackets is a magnificent carved garland with floret detail, flanked by floral rosettes. A bead-and-reel pattern underlines the garland and rosettes. This mantel is in excellent condition; it has been stripped and is ready to accept a finish. It measures 47 tall, 48 wide, is 11 5/8 deep, and has a firebox opening 29 5/8 wide and 35 tall.
