Ship's Masthead Lantern. Gray patina and violet glass. Galvanized metal; glass. This early lantern is round with a flat back. The top is domed with a cylinder, cap and handle. A clamp holds the cap in place and it opens for cleaning. A burner screws into the bottom. The thick Frensel lens has turned violet in color. There are four heavy rings on the sides for mounting. The top, and bottom have punched air holes. A plate on the front is marked, "MARINE LIGHT A. WARD HENDRICKSON & CO. BKLYN, NY."
