Victorian, circa 1890 Embossed two-faced owl head nursery light. Opaque with red painted eyes. Sits in a molded glass pyramid lamp cup. Maker''s marks to base of the cup ''S.CLARKE FAIRY PYRAMID''. Fairy lamps originated in England in the 1840''s and are candle burning night lights that would have been used in nurseries, hallways, and dimly lit corners of the home. Similar piece illustrated figure 359, page 109, Schiffer''s ''Fairy Lamps'' by Bob & Pat Ruf. Generally good. No restoration. No cracks. No hairlines. Minor chipping around the base edge of owl, around the cup rim and to one cup foot. 4.25ins high
