Superb antique gilt bronze of a baby Bacchus pouring wine into a panthers mouth. This is a beautiful and very rare antique gilt bronze by Charles Cumberworth a listed French Sculptor 1811-1852. This is one his best works. The Bacchus figure and the panther are so well sculptured they look alive. The bronze measures 7-3/4 inches high, 5-1/2 inches wide and 4-1/2 inches deep. The back of the base is inscribed Cumberworth. The bronze is mounted on a deluxe antique marble base with a gilt bronze under plate. Bases of this quality were only used on special bronzes made for expositions and presentation pieces. It is in superb condition and guaranteed to please the most particular connoisseur or collector. This truly an extraordinary early 19th century sculpture worthy of the finest collection. (Item #71262)
