Englebert Joseph Peiffer was born in Cologne, Germany on May 14, 1830 and died in Hamburg on October 18, 1896. He produced bronze busts and statues of historic and contemporary artistic celebrities. Actors, painters, and writers were amongst his most favorite subjects. He also sculpted the Hansa Fountain in Hamburg. The bronze bust we are offering is an exquisite lifelike example of this artist's work. It depicts a beautiful young lady with her hair up. At her breast rests a love bird with an aged silvered patina. The bust is inscribed Peiffer along the border of the lady's shoulder. The back is inscribed Susse Freres Editeurs Paris and is also stamped with an H under the foundry seal. She's mounted on a green marble base. Not including the base she measures 3-7/8 inches high. Including the base she measures 4-1/4 inches high. Widest width from shoulder to shoulder is 2-1/4 inches. Weight 1 lb. The pictures show it all.
