Beautiful antique bronze bust signed van der Straeten. On the back of the bust below the signature, is a foundry seal with a coat of arms, a crown, and the inscription SOCIETE DES BRONZES DE PARIS. The bronze also has the letter p and incised numbers 526 above the foundry seal. This is a beautiful bronze sculptured by a talented artist. George van der Straeten was an important Belgian sculptor 1856-1928. The bust depicts a beautiful young lady with a big ruffled collar. Her hair is up and she wears a headdress/scarf tied in a bow around her head. At the base is a flower and on the other side a bronze mask. She measures 23-1/2 inches high with widest width measuring 13-3/4 inches. Weight 52 lbs. She is in excellent condition with a beautiful light chocolate brown patina and a medium green brown patina to her hat and clothing. She has a very happy expression on her face. She's smiling and looks very much alive. The artist did an incredible job capturing the lifelike image of his beautiful model. This is a beautiful bronze sculpted by an important 19th century European artist.
