Antique Desk Accessories : A RARE novelty Royal Arms Aneroid Barometer C.19th/20thC
A wonderful and RARE antique novelty Desk Aneroid Barometer modelled in the form of the Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom in gilt and silvered metal (bronze or brass). Having the text of the motto of English monarchs, Dieu et mon droit (God and my right) and on Rouge Griotte canted marble base.
A pair of these (Clock and Barometer) sold for £1500 and Christies Kensington to the trade in 2013; they called them brass but we believe this was probably an error as we have only seen silvered patination on bronze but we may be wrong. They dated these to late 19th / early 20th century and we feel it probably dates around 1920 but again we have to bow down to Christies. A beautiful and Rare item.
Good Antique Condition; uncleaned but tested via the plastic bag method. A few minor nibbles on marble and contemporary baize added to protect table surface.
Circa: late 19th / early 20th century
6.75 inches (17.5cm) width X 6.75 inches (17.5cm) height approx
