Antique Art Deco brass inlaid burl wood box, most likely used for cigars. Made in Germany, circa 1920''s. The fabulous brass inlaid box was almost certainly made by Erhard and Sohne. Measures 6 1/8 inches long; 4 1/4 inches front to back; 2 inches high. Box with brass mounts. The top is inlaid with brass in a magnificent Egyptian theme scene. Taken from the reliefs of the Pharoahs, it depicts a hunting scene on the Nile. The water is full of fish. Above it, amidst beautifully decorative papyrus, are two boats with hunters, some spearing fish, others with bows and arrows shooting at geese that flutter about in an arc. A vase of flowers / urn and female rower complete the scene. The workmanship and artistry are breathtaking. THe quality of the wood in the background is quite beautiful. There are two signatures / makers marks on the box. One is on the lid, lower right and is a pair of initials in a circle. The other is on the bottom, on the metal border. Any advise as to who these signatures could belong to will be highly appreciated. Condition is very good. No damage/loss/restoration of any sort.
