Sandalwood Southern India glove box from Mysore c1855. This glove box was hand carved from solidsandalwood by a master carver in Southern India and used as a glove box. Measures 12 inches wide by 5 inches deep by 2 and one half inches high. This box is profusely carved with a variety of foliate designs interspersed with mythic beasts, people and peacocks. Excellent original patina and condition. There is one old line crack on the bottom board which has been reglued and one on the top left of the box which is hard to see.(which is quite normal for these period boxes) To see similar carving detail go to Furniture from British India and Ceylon by Amin Jaffer page 153
