Created in the famed Berlin workshop of Gerhard Dagly, this elegant set of boxes and their coffer in "vernis martin" bears a graceful chinoiserie moonlight scenes of quaint buildings, rocks and plants, with Chinese-style diaper patterns on the sides and a delightful "yin-yang" brass closure. The "moon" on the front of the coffer is a disk of mother-of-pearl. A truly superb item for a sophisticated collector! Coffer is approximately eight inches by 6-1/2 inches by two inches high; boxes are around 3-1/2 inches by 2-3/4 inches by 1-3/8 inches. German, end of the Seventeenth Century.
