The item is a 6 panel oriental/asian screen. It was purchased at an auction of an estate with no heirs in 1995 in Fremont County, Wyoming. The estate of a couple who traveled the world extensively buying and shipping merchandise back to the USA. This item was shipped to the USA from Thailand in the late 50s or early 60s. I only had a bill of sale which is long gone. Measurements are as follow:
Outside measurement, each panel is 17 1/4 inches wide x 74 1/4" High.
Depth of frame 1 1/4"
Overall height 8 1/2 feet......over all corner to corner 8.7feet.
One side is painted on what appears to be a lacquered background panel, using gold paint and utilizing the black background to create the picture of birds and flora. The other side is all created from a variety of stones, possibly some jade, into birds, flowers , branches and crops. The wood may be rosewood, boxwood, or a native wood. It has been in a home,not in storage since it was purchased. There is no serious damage, a little scuffing on the frame very minimal.
