Superb quality antique Japanese Satsuma pottery vase, Meiji period (1868-1912). The baluster body with a trumpet neck elaborately painted in gilt and polychrome enamels with Kannon amid various rakan (Buddhist saints) and white spotted dragon, the high shoulder adorned with raised panels and the circular Shimazu family crest. The base inscribed in gold with Shimazu family crest and maker’s signature.
CONDITION: The vase is in good condition with no cracks, restorations or repairs.
MEASUREMENTS: 24.8 cm (9 3/ in) tall and 17cm (6.7 in) wide.
