Very rare antique Japanese tea leaf storage jar fired in the late Edo Period c.1870 in Tamba north of Kyoto. Tamba was one of the giant seven kilns famed in Edo and Meiji for their ceramics. Tamba was especially known for its tea vessels. This kotamba tea leaf storage vessel is called kotamba, with 'ko' meaning old, to distinguish it from post -1867 ceramics. In excellent condition.
