This is a finely potted wufu good fortune and longevity bowl from the early Republic period (1912 -1949). It is painted in copper red with gold color. It stands on a high foot rim and inverted upwards to a gold gilded rim. On the inside of the bowl, on the inner rim, there is key fred design. On the base of the inside of the bowl, in the center is the character “shou” – longevity. It is surrounded by 5 wufu (bats) – five blessing, wing-tip to wing-tip linked by lotus.

On the outside of the bowl, there are eight bats, lanterns, endless knot and good fortune sign. The number 8 signify prosperity. The eight bats are interlinked with the lotus lozenges and hold the sign for good fortune. The lanterns with a lighted candles in it, is linked to the endless knot and is in turn linked to the lotus leave. Although the bowl bears the Jiaqing (1796 – 1820) reign mark, it is from the early Republic period.

There is no hairline crack, glaze fritting, chip, repair or restoration. There is only a minor manufacturing flaw (pic 3) which does not affect the aesthetic of the bowl. It is a very slight mark or depression just at the left pointed bottom end of the tassel – manufacturing fault. The bowl is In very good condition.
