In the original maroon lacquered wood box which has the Japanese characters "Hachiman Daibosatsu" on the front, the box also has written on the side, "Monchiru To Gin Kin Tsukuri" meaning this gumbai has scattered mons or family crests and is made of sliver and gold. The edge is silver. On the actual gumbai there are also the characters 'Hachiman Daibosatsu' in raised relief, meaning the boddhisattva is from the Hachiman Shrine. C.1910.
