This vintage Japanese bamboo flower basket is signed by one of the true masters of the art, Buseki Suishin. He was born in 1888 and died in 1983. At age 12 he studied under the 'god' of the Japanese basket golden age, Iizuka Hosai I. Established his own studio later on in Tokyo where he won numerous prizes including at the 1922 Ministry of Commerce Expo and prizes in 1934 and 1936. He is featured in "Bamboo Masterworks : Japanese Baskets from the Lloyd Cotsen Collection. Slight break on one of the bottom legs but unseen unless you look underneath. c.1935.
