Rare Edo Period c. 1860 wood carving of Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy. Fantastically carved with a rich patina from the ages, most likely housed in a buddhist temple over the years. The wood appears to be keyaki or Japanese elm. There is a very old crack that runs the length of the carving which has become part of her. Ask for shipping quote. (h:20" w: 5")
